Dr. Karen Hardy Wins the 2017 Most Promising New Textbook Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 22, 2017, Fountain City, WI - Twenty-three textbooks have been awarded 2017 Textbook Awards by the Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA). Six textbooks received William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Awards, 10 textbooks received Textbook Excellence Awards, and seven textbooks received Most Promising New Textbook Awards.

Dr. Hardy is a 2017 Most Promising New Textbook Award Winner in the College category for her book "Enterprise Risk Management: A Guide for Government Professionals” which is in its first edition and published by by John Wiley & Sons. The book is cited for College/University Accounting, Business and Economics courses, but Public Administration is also a good curriculum fit.

The Most Promising New Textbook Award recognizes excellence in 1st edition textbooks and learning materials. Works are judged by textbook authors and subject matter experts for their merits in four areas:

·        Pedagogy

·        Content/Scholarship

·        Writing

·        Appearance & Design

“I am honored to receive this award and that the TAA sees value in my contributions” says Dr. Hardy. “This award further validates not only my body of work in a field that is evolving, but brings awareness to an emerging field of risk management practice.”

Indeed, as Dr. Hardy has been at the forefront of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) early on and for the past 12 years. Often seen as a pioneer in her sector, her award-winning book is an extension of the very first research report she published with the IBM Center in 2009. But she may also be considered the “Guru for Making Things Happen,” since she is also a founder of a professional Association for ERM and wrote portions of policy that introduced ERM in financial and performance management frameworks, among many other accomplishments.

One award judge wrote:

"Enterprise Risk Management: A Guide for Government Professionals” warrants the top contender spot in the winners’ category for the coveted 2017 Most Promising New Textbook award. Dr. Karen Hardy does an excellent job in taking very technical aspects of ERM and provides guidance and real-world advice on key elements that make a successful ERM program. The student or federal employee at all levels will gain resourceful knowledge and learn practical skills as they relate to ERM."
Awards will be given to winners at the TAA Conference June 9 & 10.
