Secrets to Effective Self Leadership

Image
Disruptions in companies may lead to good things. It may lead to a boost in productivity through the use of flatter organizations-- as hierarchies become outdated, and counter productive. Agree or Disagree? This flattened structure could require the application of stronger self leadership skills by employees now more than ever as the levels of supervision disappear. Over 400 Certified Public Managers shared their secrets on self leadership practice in a survey I conducted. Results are found in my Thought Paper "Ten Strategies for Boosting Job Performance." Industry Disruptions Will Require More Strategic Risk Managers

Image
In reading the article about Tesla's race to build autonomous cargo ships; it reminds me of one potent thought I have pondered. "In my professional opinion, disruptions across the board in various industries will require more ' strategic' risk management professionals. Not in the sense of risks to strategy planning or risk to strategic objectives; but ongoing strategies for navigating smart business operations and DECISIONS.  These futurists will help steer organizations away from harm. The Future Risk Professionals Toolbox(tm) will move from emphasizing frameworks and checklists to the need to have foresight skills and the ability to advise leaders of where their greatest risks remain in all parts of the organization. Thus ERM becomes even more powerful"  -- Dr. Karen Hardy https://www.wsj.com/articles/norway-takes-lead-in-race-to-build-autonomous-cargo-ships-1500721202 https://youtu.be/5VBD7hVRhx0

Chapter 8 Update: ERM Core Competencies

Image
The core competencies for the ERM discipline continue to be improved. The Risk Management Society (RIMS) recently updated their competency and professional growth model. The RIMS competency model was included in the first edition of Enterprise Risk Management: A Guide for Government Professionals.  A survey of Federal, State, and Local government risk professionals was completed in 2014 to assess which competencies were more present in the public sector environment. The survey will be redistributed. But adopters of the book will have access to the exclusive updated survey results through one the new survey is completed. This survey information will be available for Book Adopters to include in their training and education material.
